There lived a girl in a small village of Faridpur. Her name is Amena. Her father Rofiq was a clerk and her mother Nasima was a housewife. Though Amena was the only daughter of their parents, she never got the love of her parents. Because, her parents wanted a boy not a girl which is why Amena was always scolded by her parents. Amena’s father often used to say, “I wish I had a son. Now who will take care of us during our old age?” Her parents never gave her anything except ignorance. Amena could do anything for her parent’s love. Amena always craved for love in her entire life. She did everything to make her parents happy but all went in vain. Amena grew up craving for love.
Amena was a broken but spirited girl. She never gave up on her life. She always believed that one day she will get the love of her parents. With this hope, Amena was growing up. And Amena had a great passion in football. She learned to play football watching the boys of her school playing. She wanted to play football to follow her dreams but her parents never encouraged her to play football. Yet, she practiced in school field and her teachers always used to encourage her to play football.
One day, her school arranged an interschool tournament and Amena was nominated as a captain to play for the tournament. She was very excited to play for the tournament. She told her parents but Rofiq refused her to play for the tournament. She was in a dilemma now as she not only wanted to follow her passion but also kept her parents happy. She decided to sacrifice her happiness to make her parents happy. She went to cut her name from the tournament but then her physical education teacher Borkot requested her to play for the tournament as the team needed her for being a good player. She was in a dilemma now. After getting encouragement from teachers she decided to play. Amena was ready to give her best in the tournament.
Then the day of the match came. For the very first time, she lied to her parents that she was going to the school. She played really well in the match. She shot 2 goals. Her team won the match by 3-0 goals. Amena got a medal. She was very delightful as her hard work paid off. She thought that her parents would be proud of her then. She went to her parents and told them that she got a medal by winning the match. But alas! Her father just threw the medal and locked her in a room. Her mother beat her to a pulp for disobeying them. Amena was a bit upset not because she got beatings ad rapping but she could not make her parents happy and proud of herself, but then she again gathered courage and believed firmly that she would make her parents proud one day.
One day, the goggles of Rofiq broke down. He went to repair his spectacles but he did not have the desired money. So he went home with empty handed. He told Nasima that he could not repair his spectacles due to shortage of money. Amena overheard everything. She decided to repair Rofiq’s spectacles but she had also no money at that time. Then she thought of selling her medal and with that money she wanted to repair her father’s spectacles. She went to a shop and sold her medal. It took her a lot of courage to sell her medal which gave recognition to her talent but in front of her parents, that medal was nothing. With that money, she repaired her father’s spectacles. She then gave those spectacles to her father. Her father was surprised about the fact. Rofiq asked Amena, “How do you get these repaired spectacles?” She replied, “I have sold my medal and with that money I have repaired your spectacles.” Amena’s father and mother had tears at that time. The daughter whom they did not get love in their entire life, she sold her medal because of them. Amena’s parents asked her, “Why do you sell your medal just for repairing spectacles?” Amena replied, “Next to God thy parents. You both are the most important persons in my life. I will get many more medals like these but I will never get parents back again if I lose them.” Hearing this, Rofiq and Nasima realized their mistakes that daughters can also take care of family and then they embraced her. Amena felt so peaceful in her parent’s arms. The love for which Amena always craved for she got it. Then they started to live happily with their small family.
